In another setback to the already beleaguered airframe manufacturer, striking Boeing workers have rejected its new contract offer on October 23, 2024. The offer included a 35% wage increase over the course of the four year contract, with an immediate 12% pay increase.
Some 33,000 workers at its Seattle and Portland factories - represented by IAM District 751 and W2 - voted to reject the offer with a 64% majority. The workers had originally called for a 40% wage increase.
The workers had rejected an initial 25% wage offer and the union subsequently rejected to vote on its second 30% wage increase offer.
“We have made tremendous gains in this agreement in many areas our members said were important to them,” said IAM District 751 president Jon Holden. “However, we have not achieved enough to meet our members' demands.”
Holden added that it is aiming to return to negotiations with Boeing. The union had originally urged its members to accept the original 25% wage increase offer.
Boeing has declined to comment. It had reported a net loss of $6.17bn in the same day as the strike weighed down on its earnings.
