Debts of more than US$1bn have forced the Sri Lankan government to work to restructure its national airline carrier, SriLankan Airlines. The carrier will not be privatized but the government will likely take over its liabilities and restructure the airline to put a stop to the losses made mainly on its long-haul routes.
The airline is already subject to a government investigation over alleged corruption in the national airline, which is alleged to have involved "billions of dollars".
