Southwest recovers from outage

After grounding 250 flights on Friday due to a system-wide computer failure, Southwest Airlines resume normal operations by Saturday afternoon. The computer failure lasted for three hours and although full service was restored just after 2 am EDT on Saturday, delays lingered as the airline worked to clear a backlog of flights and reposition planes and crew.
The airline canceled 43 flights Friday night and another 14 Saturday morning.
Southwest is the latest airline to ground flights because of a large computer outage. Read more about how airlines can better manage this operational risk in the forthcoming issue of Airline Economics.
