Two of America's most high profile airlines, Southwest along with United, have extended its cancellation periods for Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
Southwest has announced that it will extend its cancellation period for the 737 Max until October 1, as it will continue to await guidance from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the impending 737 Max software enhancements and training requirements.
A statement said: "We are encouraged by the reported progress and proposed path forward for returning the aircraft to service, and we remain confident that, once certified by the FAA, the enhancements will support the safe operation of the Max."
The airline's original grounding period was scheduled to be through to September 2 and it's said this revision will remove 150 daily flights from its schedule.
Meanwhile, United Airlines had previously cancelled 737 Max flights through August 3. But the company has announced that it will extend that cancellation through at least September 3.
United will have to drop between 40 to 45 flights per day in July, and 60 per day in August, according to a statement.
