South African state-owned carrier Mango Airlines said it is currently in the final stages of concluding a transaction with an investor that will help restart operations.
The low-cost subsidiary of South African Airways suspended all flights in July 2021, after it failed to make outstanding payments to South Africa's Air Traffic and Navigation Services.
The airline said in a statement on its website that it is calling on customers that could not use purchased tickets due to the grounding of operations to get in touch. These passengers will receive a voucher equal to the value of their previous unused ticket to help them book their next flight, the airline said.
However, if the airline is unable to reach an agreement with this new investor, tickets will be treated as a creditor claim, with customers able to receive a dividend payout that will cover a portion of the total ticket value.
“As part of this process, we need to confirm the value of un-flown tickets that were purchased but not used and vouchers that were previously issued but could not be used, as a result of the suspension of Mango’s operations when it entered business rescue,” read the carriers statement to passengers.
The airline has opened a voucher portal on its website allowing customers to submit claims, this will close on September 1, 2025.
