Pilots from South African Airways have suspended strike action, which began on December 5, 2024.
This resolution between the airline’s executive management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA) occurred after an additional 1% salary increase was offered, resulting in a total salary increase of 9.47% for South African Airways pilots.
The strike action came to an end on December 7, 2024, with the airline returning to normal operations the following day, as during the strike action the South African carrier was operating just 51% of its planned flight schedule.
SAA interim chief executive officer, John Lamola commented: “As part of the agreement that broke the deadlock in wage negotiations, engagements on a continuous enterprise improvement program will continue over the next eight weeks.”
He continued: “We are committed to implementing work-life concessions that should enhance the productivity of our world-acclaimed pilots.”
More than 100 pilots have returned following the suspension of strike action.
