Singapore Airlines plans to suspend its Vancouver service from October 23, 2023 within a short span of two years from launch, to adjust capacity to demand. The route was operated by Airbus A350 with three or four times weekly services. The airline had launched this route in December 2021.
Singapore Airlines operated the Vancouver route prior to 2009, however back then too the airline had indefinitely suspended its thrice -weekly service between Singapore and Vancouver, via Seoul, with the last flight taking place on April 25, 2009.
"The decision to suspend service is most regrettable, as Singapore Airlines has served Canada for over 20 years. However, the economic conditions and performance on the route has been badly affected by the global economic downturn. The reduction is part of Singapore Airlines continuing commitment to ensure capacity is best matched with demand in the current economic conditions," the airline had confirmed in the statement.
Experts believe that after revival of the route in 2021, the airline found it difficult to make it profitable as compared to other routes, wherein reassigning the A350s help in revenue generation.
