The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group’s December passenger traffic grew by 7.1% when compared to the same month of 2023, with SIA and Scoot collectively carrying 3.6 million passengers over the month.
This brings the group’s total passenger carriage for 2024 to 39 million, 12.7% higher than the 34.6 million the group recorded in 2023.
In addition to an increase in the number of passengers carried by the group’s two airlines, cargo loads also rose by 13.6% in comparison to the year prior. This increase outpaces an 11.3% expansion in cargo capacity, the airline group confirmed. These increases were driven by a boost in perishables traffic after China lifted a ban on Australian live rock lobster imports, and an increase in demand ahead of the Lunar New Year period.
During the month, Scoot launched passenger services to Phu Quoc in Vietnam, while SIA resumed direct seasonal services to Sapporo (Chitose) in Japan.
As of the end of December, the group’s passenger network covered 129 destinations in 36 countries and territories. SIA served 80 destinations, while Scoot served 72.
