Schiphol considering using AI-based airport security screening

Royal Schiphol Group is pairing up with Google partner security technology company Pangiam "to develop a new way to screen hand baggage quickly and safely" using artificial intelligence.

If it works, the technology, which is called "Project DARTMOUTH", could in time "help enable travellers to go through security checks faster, without compromising on safety".

“ In the future, this collaboration can contribute to more comfort for travellers thanks to secure and faster hand baggage screening. Safety always remains our priority, said Philip van Noort, director security at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

"This collaboration allows us to bring the benefits of artificial intelligence to the security checkpoint and improve the process," said Alexis Long, head of Project DARTMOUTH, a Google-Pangiam partnership.
