Saudia has selected GE Aerospace's GEnx-1B engines to power its order of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

In 2023, the Saudi flag carrier ordered 39 787-9s and 787-10s.

The agreement includes spare engines and a multi-year MRO programme.

The deal also includes upskilling initiatives at Saudia's maintenance and engineering arm, Saudia Technic, which aims to expand and localise the country's aerospace expertise.

“This strategic partnership with GE Aerospace not only transforms the group’s long-haul capability and expands our air connectivity, but also accelerates the localisation of high-technology aviation expertise in the Kingdom,” said Saudia Group director general Ibrahim Al-Omar.

“Through this agreement, we will be able to develop in-country technical capability for engines we previously maintained abroad, ensuring that investment, skills, and value remain within the Kingdom, in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030.”

“Our collective efforts to further develop a skilled aerospace workforce that benefits the Kingdom and the US will support our industry for decades to come,” said GE Aerospace chairman and CEO Lawrence Culp.

The deal was signed during the US-Saudi Investment Forum 2025.
