Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Vietnam Airlines have entered into a new codeshare agreement, in a bid to enhance connectivity between Southeast Asia and Scandinavia.
The partnership, formed between the two SkyTeam members, is set to commence ticket sales in early July.
"This agreement is a testament to the value of the SkyTeam alliance in delivering global connectivity and shared benefits for frequent flyers," said Paul Verhagen, chief commercial officer at SAS. “It also opens up exciting opportunities for our passengers to experience Vietnam’s vibrant culture, natural beauty, and exceptional cuisine.”
Vietnam Airlines EVP Dang Anh Tuan commented: “As both airlines are members of the SkyTeam alliance, this provides a solid foundation for implementing an effective codeshare agreement, offering passengers more destination choices and enhanced benefits for members of each airlines frequent flyer program. At the same time, this partnership marks an important step forward in promoting economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the Scandinavian region.”
Under the agreement, passengers will be able to book itineraries that include segments operated by either airline through a single reservation. This aims to streamline travel between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo.
This has been facilitated by Vietnam Airlines' new service to Copenhagen, set to commence in December. The airline will operate three times weekly between Ho Chi Minh City and the Danish capital.
