Ryanair reduces capacity by 20% at Berlin Brandenburg airport
Ryanair is suspending 20% of its air traffic at Berlin’s Brandenburg airport. The low-cost carrier blames access costs as the reason for the reduction in operations at the German capital’s airport. “The reason for this is the horrendous access costs, which could not be reduced by the German government and airport management. As part of these cuts, the number of aircraft stationed by Ryanair in Berlin will be reduced from 9 to 7, resulting in a loss of 750,000 seats and 6 routes,” said a spokesperson for the airline. This announcement follows a number of warnings from Ryanair that Germany would lose a further 10% of the airline's capacity in the country – 1.5 million seats during the summer period of 2025 – if the German government does not reverse its 24% increase on aviation tax.  Ryanair's CEO Eddie Wilson added: “These cuts will hurt air travel, inbound travel, the economy and Germany's post-Covid recovery, while rival EU capitals with much lower or no aviation taxes/fees will benefit from the growing Ryanair traffic diverted from this high-priced, uncompetitive market.”
