A Danish labour court has ruled that Ryanair staff that are members of the Confederation of Trade Unions are allowed to strike at Copenhagen airport. The court stated that the Irish carrier must agree a collective agreement with local staff or face a blockade from trade unionists. Currently Ryanair staff in Denmark are hired on Irish contracts, which unions say means they are paid much less than their peers employed at Danish airlines.
Unions have threatened to blockage its aircraft at the airport but Ryanair has stated that it would continue to operate 12 routes into Copenhagen using aircraft based outside Denmark.
“It is absurd for Danish trade unions to attempt to impose collective agreements on Irish air crew who spend less than 2 per cent of their working time in Denmark, and who already have the benefit of the collective agreement in place with Ryanair,” Ryanair said in a statement.
