Ryanair boosts Polish capacity ahead of summer season

Ryanair will offer upwards of 20 million seats from Polish airports during the summer season, representing 5% growth in comparison to the previous year.

The Irish low-cost carrier plans to invest $4.4 billion into its operations within Poland, represented by 44 aircraft being based at the country’s airports. The airline also said in a statement that investments will create “thousands” of aviation jobs within the country.

Ryanair will add three more aircraft to bases in Krakow and Wroclaw, as well as increasing regional activity by launching new routes to Bydgoszcz, Lublin, Rzeszow, and Olsztyn-Mazury.

Warsaw-Modlin will see a reduction in capacity, with a 50% decrease in traffic, translating to a loss of 1 million seats, and the withdrawal of one aircraft, reducing the airport’s fleet from five to four planes.

The airline will also introduce 23 new routes, taking the total number offered to and from Poland to 307.

The airline has recently announced plans to reduce capacity in several European countries including Spain, the UK and Germany following increases in aviation taxes and airport fees. It stated that it will allocate aircraft and capacity to European countries such as Poland where such price hikes have not been implemented.

Last week, Ryanair cut 800,000 seats from its Spanish summer schedule, citing high airport fees at state-owned operator Aena's airports.
