Runway repair deal announced for LAX

Construction and infrastructure company Granite has been granted a US$174 million contract by the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports to provide four new taxiways and rebuild sections of two runways at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The runways will have to be closed sequentially while the work is being done, Granite said. The aim is to "improve safety and operational efficiency on the airfield and extend the pavement life of both runways on the north complex of LAX," the company explained.

“We appreciate being trusted with a project that will provide increased safety and efficiency to one of the world’s busiest airports," said Scott McArthur, Granite vice president of regional operations.
