Reed Smith grows aviation practice with senior asset finance lawyer in London

Global law firm Reed Smith has today announced the addition of asset finance lawyer Andrew Harper to its Transportation Industry Group. Harper, a senior associate, joins from White & Case where he specialised in aircraft, ship and rail finance, but originally trained and qualified as an associate at Reed Smith’s London office in 2010.

Harper’s practice focuses on structured international aviation finance and leasing transactions with a particular emphasis on secured debt financings, export credit agency-support financings, operating, finance and tax-based lease structures, pre-delivery payment facilities, sales and purchases.

Richard Hakes, co-chair of Reed Smith’s aviation group, said: “We’re thrilled to have Andrew join Reed Smith, especially during such a busy time for the aviation finance team. Andrew’s experience advising some of the biggest banks, private equity firms, lessors, and airlines will be of great benefit to our group and our clients.

“This is an exciting time for the aviation team at Reed Smith, we have grown significantly over the past few years and will continue to do so in line with the evolving needs of our clients – many of whom are navigating unchartered territory and exploring new opportunities.”

This latest hire further demonstrates the strength of Reed Smith’s growing aviation practice, which last year was bolstered by the addition of partner Simon Spells in Singapore, as well as finance and restructuring lawyer Kathleen Garrett in London. In addition, fellow aviation finance and leasing partners Christopher Jackson and Adam Longney joined the firm’s aviation group in 2020.

Rob Wilkins, chair of Reed Smith’s Transportation Industry Group, said: “Andrew is a fantastic addition to our team in London and the global group, his hire underlines the firm’s commitment to supporting clients in the aviation and wider transportation sector. We’re pleased to have him back at the firm and as part of the team here in London.”

Harper said: “I am delighted to be returning to Reed Smith, a firm which has already played a huge part in my career and had a very positive impact on me. The transportation group is a great fit for my capabilities and provides me with the ideal global platform to further enhance my practice and serve my aviation clients.”
