IATA forecasts airline losses due to soaring fuel costs

The Future of Aviation Advisory Committee has recommended the US government help airlines pay for high-tech navigation equipment and look again at whether airline passengers should be allowed to carry young children in their laps.
In a bid to improve the economic viability of the aviation industry, make flights less environmentally damaging and streamline the way the government collects and spends aviation-related taxes, these recommendations are being lauded as a “blueprint for the industry.”
The recommendations include speeding up the development of the NextGen air-traffic system and helping airlines pay the billions of dollars for new equipment. They also call for the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct new studies about whether to require children under two years old to be buckled into their own seats or seat sit on parents’ laps.
