Qatar Airways is expected to finalise its purchase of a major stake in RwandAir as early as July. With the African marketing growing swiftly, the Doha-based airline is hoping to capitalise on RwandAir's position in central Africa.
A deal for Qatar to acquire a 49% stake of Rwanda's flag carrier has largely been delayed due to the pandemic, as well as Qatar hosting the Fifa World Cup in 2022.
""We have been discussing it for almost five years,"" RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo told the Financial Times. She added that they were at the ""tail-end"" of discussing a deal.
Makolo intra-African passenger traffic is set to more than quadruple over the next couple of decades.
