Akbar al Baker, the chief executive of Qatar Airways, has stated that he is confident Boeing will deliver its first 787 by the end of next year.
Boeing has a total of 847 orders for the 787 and is scheduled to deliver the first aircraft to ANA early next year. After three years of delays, the program’s woes were compounded by an onboard fire on a test flight last month.
Qatar is one of five Middle East carriers that have ordered the 787. Etihad Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Gulf Air and Royal Jordanian are all waiting for orders.
Although Al Baker has reiterated his confidence that the aircraft will be delivered according to the new scheduled, he warned Boeing that any further delays would result it is cancelling its order for 30 aircraft: “If there keeps on being slippages, if there is another slip, then yes, we will have no alternative,” he said.
