Q1 profit for Volaris

Mexican carrier Volaris has reversing a MXP370 million net loss for the 2014 March quarter by posted a net profit of MXP306 million ($20.1 million) for the first quarter of this year. The airline’s total operating revenue rose 35.8% in the first-quarter to MXP3.77 billion, with non-ticket revenue up by 64.6% to MXP 846 million. Non-ticket revenue per passenger rose 41.6% to MXP337. Volaris’ total operating expenses rose 4.9% to MXP3.42 billion. The carrier’s operating income for the quarter came to MXP346 million, reversing the MXP488 million operating loss Volaris in 1Q 2014.

Volaris’ passenger traffic rose 9.9% to 2.44 billion RPMs on the back of an 11% increase in capacity to 3 billion ASMs. Volaris passenger load factor fell 0.7 percentage points to 80%.
