US-based Pratt & Whitney on December 19 announced an operational landmark for its PW4000-94-inch engine, declaring that it has "surpassed 150 million flight hours and 35 years of operational experience" since the first of over 2,500 of the engines was delivered in 1987. T

The evergreen PW4000-94-inch is in use by more than 70 customers across 30 countries, the manufacturer said, including in the Boeing 747/767 and the Airbus A300/310.

“This milestone is a testament to the PW4000-94-inch engine’s legacy of reliability and performance,” said Bernie Zimmerman, vice president, operational commercial engines, Pratt & Whitney, lauding the engine's "excellent operational flexibility and fuel economy"

United Airlines vice president of technical services John Wiitala said his airline "appreciated the reliability, great fuel economy and low maintenance costs" of the engine, adding it was "no surprise" it remains in use.
