Pilots from South African Airlines commence strike action after deadlock in pay negotiations

Pilots from South African Airlines (SAA) affiliated with the SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA) and the National Transport Movement commenced strike action on December 5, 2024.

The strike was called following a deadlock in pay negotiations between the South African flag carrier and the SAPAA.

South African’s interim chief executive officer, John Lamola commented: “This situation is regrettable, and we acknowledge the trust our customers place in us for their travel needs."

Lamola did confirm that although not all of the airline’s pilots are on strike, the carrier’s schedule would be subject to “alterations” and “restrictions” during the period of the strike.

Details of the airline’s limited flight schedule have been communicated to travel agents and passengers.
