OAG data identifies Hong Kong to Taipei as the busiest international route of 2024

An annual report from aviation data provider OAG has shown that the busiest international airline route in 2024 was Hong Kong to Taipei, with 6.8 million available seats.

The report analysed the volume of scheduled airline seats from January to December 2024 and highlighted that capacity on the Hong Kong to Taipei route has grown by 48% compared to the previous year, yet it remains 15% lower than the levels seen in 2019.

Cairo to Jeddah, with 5.5 million seats, was the year’s second busiest international route with airline capacity having grown 14% above 2023 levels and is now 62% higher than in 2019. The third busiest was Seoul Incheon to Tokyo Narita, with 5.4 million seats. Capacity on this route has increased 30% compared to 2023 and is 68% higher than in 2019.

The report also noted the world’s busiest domestic routes for the year, with Jeju to Seoul Gimpo remaining the world’s busiest domestic route, offering 14.2 million seats, which translates to nearly 39,000 seats per day. 

Capacity on this route has grown by 3% in comparison to last year, however it still lags behind pre-pandemic levels as capacity was highlighted to be 19% higher on this route in 2019.
