A new analysis of national flight delays and cancellations shows that New York area airports were the most disrupted in the nation during the recent Nor’easter blizzard. Between Friday, January 22 and Sunday, January 24, 2016, just under 6,000 flights destined for or departing from the New York metropolitan area were delayed or cancelled. Next up was DC with roughly 3,700 flights disrupted, and Charlotte had the third-most flight delays and cancellations at nearly 3,000.
Joe Sitt, Chairman of Global Gateway Alliance, said, “The Port Authority and the airlines took the necessary measures to keep passengers safe in the midst of the city's second-largest snowfall. But we have to remain focused on modernizing our airports, so we finally have both the 21st century air traffic technology needed to recover faster from these weather events and the amenities that passengers look for during hours- or days-long waits.”
