Norwegian Air Shuttle has warned the British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa) that it may make redundancies among its pilots based at London Gatwick airport after engine troubles grounded some of its 787 Dreamliners. Norwegian has wet leased four aircraft in place of the 787, which means it does not require all of the 300 pilots based at Gatwick.
Balpa reported the news to its members, adding that options other than redundancies could be for some pilots to take a 12 month leave of absence.
Norwegian said: “We have had positive discussions with our pilots and the unions regarding the options that are available to them and we are all working together to ensure that redundancies remain a last resort.”
