Norwegian has entered into an agreement to purchase three 737-800 aircraft, currently on lease to the airline.

This transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions. The acquisition will initially be funded through the company’s cash on hand, with Norwegian currently in the process of securing long-term financing following completion.

The company said this transaction will enhance financial flexibility, increase asset ownership, and reduce overall ownership costs.

Upon closing, Norwegian expects to record a non-recurring gain of approximately 260 million Norwegian Krone.

“This gain reflects the favourable pricing achieved for the aircraft and the corresponding reduction in existing lease liabilities,” the airline said in a filing. “Additionally, the transaction is expected to generate recurring cost savings—net of financing costs—of approximately 25 million Krone per year.”

This aircraft acquisition follows Norwegian’s earlier purchase of ten 737-800 aircraft announced in March. The company has since completed long-term financing for that transaction on attractive terms.
