Operational results for February posted by the Norwegian Group and Finnair indicate growth in both passenger numbers and capacity during the month.
The Norwegian Group carried 1.58 million passengers during February, an increase of 2.8% in comparison to the same month of the year prior. This was made up of 1.29 million passengers that were carried by Norwegian and 288,000 that flew with Widerøe.
Norwegian’s capacity in February increased by 14% from 2024, while passenger traffic for Norwegian was up 12%. The airlines average passenger load factor totalled 84.8%, down 1.2 percentage points from the same period last year. Widerøe, reported stable capacity during the month, down 0.5% from last year. The airline’s passenger load factor was 70.1%, up 2.9 percentage points from February of last year.
Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, said that both Norwegian and Widerøe have had a “marked improvement in punctuality” during the month, which he stated as being essential for its customers.
During February, Finnair carried 846,000 passengers, up 4.4% in comparison to February 2024. The airline noted that passenger numbers saw good growth in Asian, North Atlantic, and European traffic but declined on Middle Eastern and domestic routes.
Overall capacity increased by 3.2%, as additional narrow-body capacity was deployed by Finnair after wet lease outs to British Airways ended in March 2024 Additionally, traffic increased by 7.3%.
Passenger load factor increased by 2.9 percentage points to 75.1%. The airline said it saw load factors improve in Asian traffic, especially on routes to Japan and Singapore, while noting a decline in European and domestic traffic.
