Preparations are advancing for the creation of a new national airline in Tanzania. The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Treasury Registrar to coordinate preparations for the new airline or revamped Air Tanzania Company (ATCL) free from impediments. Core investors of the national carrier will be TANAPA and Ngorongoro National Parks, which as strategic investors will be exempted from paying taxes. Some 30% of tourists destined for Tanzania pass through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Treasury Registrar will take command by coordinating the process between all the stakeholders and provide PAC with a way forward report in June.
