New poll shows UK reluctance to book holidays

A new YouGov poll of 4,257 British adults carried out on the 12 May 2021 shows that despite the government announcing the green list of countries, the majority of Britons aren’t optimistic about foreign travel this year.

The research shows that just one in nine Britons are confident that they will have a normal summer holiday abroad this year (11%), meaning that almost three quarters of the public think this is unlikely (74%). 15% are unsure.

Despite being among the first groups to be vaccinated, Britons aged 65 and over are the least optimistic with just 9% confident that they will get abroad this year. Comparatively, young Britons aged 18 to 24 are the most confident at 17% - nearly twice that of older Britons.

Despite reports that the cost of flights to popular holiday destinations surged ahead of the green list announcement last week, the majority of Britons still have not booked a summer holiday this year (71%).

One in five have booked a holiday in the UK (20%) while just one in twenty have booked a holiday abroad (5%). Just 3% have booked a holiday both in the UK and abroad.
