New Delhi airport roof collapses, one dead and six injured according to reports
Local press in New Delhi reported that a portion of the roof in Indira Ghandi International Airport Terminal 1 has collapsed, leaving one dead and six injured. Reports from NDTV have said that officials confirmed that the ""roof sheet and support beams collapsed"", and the incident was reported to Delhi fire services at around 5:30am local time. The newly elected civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu told reporters that the incident was ""very serious"" and said in a post on X that he has ""personally inspected the site"". Kinjarapu added in the post: ""Our immediate priority was the safe evacuation of all passengers from the terminal. Consequently, all flights scheduled until 2 PM have been cancelled."" In a statement given to NDTV, IndiGo, which operates from Terminal 1, confirmed that passengers already inside the terminal “will be able to board their planned flights, but those with flights later in the day will be offered alternatives”. The airline has advised customers to “keep track of and confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport."" It added the ""unplanned situation"" had led to operations across its network being impacted. SpiceJet, which also operates from the terminal, said it will reschedule its flights from terminal 3.
