Alitalia net loss widened during 2012 from of €69 million to €280 million ($370 million), worsened from a loss of €69 million in 2011. Full-year revenue rose by 3.3% to €3.59 billion. Passenger numbers fell marginally to 24.3 million, while load factor rose 1.8% to 74.6%.
Some €91 million of the loss the airline says was due to extraordinary costs attributed to depreciation, maintenance and sales of aircraft within the overall plan to renew the fleet.
CEO Andrea Ragnetti has announced his resignation following the results. A statement reads that Alitalia and Ragnetti “have mutually agreed to terminate their relationship. Mr. Ragnetti resigned from the board and as chief executive officer of Alitalia and Air One as well as managing director of Alitalia”.
Alitalia chairman Roberto Colaninno has been named interim CEO while the airline searches for a new CEO.
