Munich Airport has welcomed its 50 millionth passenger on flights to and from the US.
“Long-haul non-stop flights between Munich Airport and destinations in the USA have undergone an enormous development and are continuing to grow,” said a spokesperson for the airport.
They continued: “The airport recorded the 50-millionth passenger to travel on the non-stop service to the United States since the airport was established.”
Germany’s second busiest airport began operating flights to the US in 1992 – with 39 departures to five destinations per week – this has now increased to 140 departures per week across 14 destinations.
The German flag carrier Lufthansa along with American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United currently offer direct services from the airport to the US, offering 44,000 seats per week.
