MTU Maintenance is to expand its presence in North America with new LEAP and GEnx engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities at its facility in Texas.
Under new agreements with both CFM International and GE Aerospace, the site will transition from an on-site service centre into a full disassembly, assembly, and test facility.
The company said that this will support both narrowbody and widebody engine platforms.
“This represents a multi-billion-dollar opportunity across both programs’ lifetimes,” said Michael Schreyögg, chief program officer, MTU Aero Engines. “We are committed to long-term investment and growth in the region.”
The MTU facility in Fort Worth will become one of six premier MRO providers globally for LEAP engines, offering full performance restoration and expanded repair services. In addition, MTU will launch full overhaul services for the GEnx engine, backed by a new GE Aerospace branded services agreement (GBSA).
“This step strengthens our presence in North America and broadens our service portfolio,” added Gernot Sell, managing director, MTU Maintenance Dallas. “We’re prepared for growth and committed to job creation.”
MTU is a risk and revenue-sharing partner in the GEnx program and already supports the turbine centre frame from its Hannover facility.
