Monarch Airlines has completed all specified requirements for a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) air operator’s certificate (AOC), making it one of the first UK airlines to do so.
A key feature of the EASA regulations concerning AOCs is the introduction of a mandatory Safety Management System (SMS), requiring each operator to demonstrate “a robust safety culture and a risk-based approach to all aspects of aircraft operations.”
Monarch’s new AOC will become effective on October 28th, the date by which all EU civil aviation regulation is to be harmonized. All airlines must conform to EASA regulations after this point.
Monarch Airlines operations director Nils Christy said: “Our successful transition to EASA conformity is thanks to the dedicated work and support of a number of departments across both the airline and Monarch Aircraft Engineering Ltd over the last nine months. Due to this commitment, we were able to submit eight weeks ahead of deadline and subsequently become one of the UK’s first major airlines to complete the necessary requirements to be issued an EASA certificate.”
