Flights at Milan's Bergamo Airport were briefly suspended on July 8, after an incident occurred on a taxiway.
Local media has reported that a man entered the airport's apron and ran towards a Volotea aircraft as it was pushing back in preparation for takeoff. The man was subsequently injected into one of the A319s engines.
In a statement, Volotea confirmed that one of its aircraft, operating between Bergamo and Asturias, was involved in an incident at Milan-Bergamo Airport at 10:35 local time on July 8.
The airline stated that one person “not onboard” and “not affiliated” with the company was seriously injured. All 154 passengers and six crew on board were unharmed.
The incident caused the cancellation of 12 services and numerous delays.
The airport reinstated operations at 12pm local time.
