Italian airline Meridiana has announced it will transition to an all-Boeing fleet by the end of 2014, by phasing-out its six dry-leased A320-200s, nine MD-82s and its single MD-83.

Meridiana CEO Roberto Scaramella said that the airline will replace the outgoing aircraft with second-hand 737s and 767-300ERs.

Scaramella also added that the airline’s long-term plans include the Bombardier CSeries and the B737 MAX, although this is contingent on the airline successfully completing its restructuring programme.

Following the successful completion of a share buy-back scheme in May which saw him acquiring a 96.87% shareholding in Meridiana via his various firms, the airline’s founder the Aga Khan announced the recapitalisation of the airline to the tune of EUR200million (USD278million).
