MERGER OF UKRAINIAN CARRIERS TO CREATE NATIONAL FLAG CARRIER

The chairman of the AeroSvit’s supervisory board, Gregory Gurtovoy, have voiced his support of the creation of a large national air carrier through the merger of companies that are part of the Ukrainian Aviation Group: AeroSvit, Donbasaero and Dniproavia alliance. Gurtovoy sent an open letter to Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov drawing his attention to the situation and asking for there to be a transparent privatization of the state-owned stake in Ukraine International Airlines (UIA).

“We believe that our proposal [Dniproavia's proposal to buy the state-owned stake in UIA for $65 million] would give the united Ukrainian companies a chance to create a strong player in the international aviation sphere,” he said.

A further motivation for the merger would be to support the domestic aircraft building sector.
