Malaysia’s new LCC MYAirline to launch soon

MYAirline, Malaysia’s new low-cost airline, is all set to begin commercial operations in a few months time. Currently, the airline received conditional approval for an Air Service License, which is a required certification in Malaysia for air transport, along with an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) issued on September 27, 2022. The airline management is now awaiting to obtain an Air Service License from the Malaysian Commission post which it will be fully certified for operational launch.

Rayner Teo, Chief Executive Officer of MYAirline, said: "We received our AOC last week, effective next month onwards. So that is one of the last stages before we go live and put our planes in the air. There are still a few steps left to go."

MyAirline fleet currently consists of one A320-200 aircraft with 180-seat configurations with two more aircraft additions expected soon. Malaysian authorities have a rule of having at least two aircraft before commencing operations.

Initially, MYAirlines is expected to operate on domestic routes, with the official announcement expected soon. Teo added: “We will focus on strengthening the team for now, as we currently have more than 300 staff, including 45 pilots. So, the main strategy right now is to focus on offering basic services that are more guaranteed. We also want to make sure that our on-time performance is among the best globally."

With passing seasons, the airline will plan on expanding internationally but as of now the airline management believes in taking a conservative approach by gradually building the domestic network first.
