Maeve Aerospace unveils new hybrid-electric regional aircraft design

Maeve Aerospace has unveiled a new hybrid-electric regional design, the M80, billed by the Dutch aircraft developer as offering ‘the performance of a jet with the efficiency of a turboprop’.

The 80-seat redesign – surpassing its previous 44-passenger Maeve 01 model, unveiled at this year’s Paris air show – is described as ‘a clean sheet design with a new integrated hybrid propulsion system’, intended as ‘the perfect replacement of both the regional jet segment as well as the turboprop segment’. 10 battery packs will power two hybrid-electric engines, enabling a full range capability of over 800NM (cruising at FL350) with a 25% lower trip cost compared to equal sized regional jets.

Maeve’s M80 will be certified to operate on 100% hydrogen based Power-to-Liquid fuels, as well as being able to operate on other specifications of sustainable aviation fuels. Its aircraft is expected to enter service by 2031.
