A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) is launching two air freight services between the US and China.

The "new customer-backed air corridor"  is aimed at closing a "connectivity gap" between the countries, which are by far the world's two biggest economies

“With the introduction of these new routes, we are further connecting North America and Asia Pacific through regular flights and controlled capacity for our customers,” said Michel Pozas Lucic, Maersk's global head of air.

The service will open with two weekly flights between Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and Shenyang Taoxian International Airport  and with two weekly flights between Chicago Rockford International Airport  and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, Maersk said in its announcement, with both routes to be increased to three weekly flights from May.

The routes will be linked with Maersk's recently-opened Chicago air freight gateway and will be done with three newly acquired Boeing 767-300 freighters to be operated by Amerijet International.

The US-China routes come less two weeks after the inaugural flight of Maersk's new air freight service with three weekly scheduled flights between Billund and Hangzhou.

Maersk new air cargo division has in the meantime started an Amerijet-operated service between Greenville-Spartanburg in South Carolina and Incheon.
