Lufthansa sets sights on India for its long-haul, low-cost carrier

In a recent interview, Sadiq Gillani, Senior Vice-President and Chief Strategy Officer, Lufthansa Group, said that Lufthansa would soon launch its long haul, low-cost carrier, Eurowings, to destinations in India. This is despite the increased competition in the region from Gulf carriers.

Using A330s, Eurowings will offer two classes – premium economy and economy. The airline will allow passengers to bid for the premium economy seats and would also allow on-board passengers to upgrade their economy to premium economy by paying €300.

Annette Mann, Director for launch management of premium economy, said that the uptake had been positive with 35% of economy class passengers opting for the onboard upgrade.
