Lufthansa rescinds temporary ban on flights to Iraq

Lufthansa has lifted the temporary ban it had imposed on services to Iraq over the weekend, but has now stated said it will resume flights to and from Arbil in northern Iraq starting on August 4th, but will continue to avoid airspace above southern regions of the country.

Lufthansa also stated that flights to Asia and other parts of the Middle East would continue to detour around Iraq.

The new procedures would also apply to the airline’s subsidiaries Lufthansa Cargo, Austrian Airlines and Swiss.

Lufthansa’ self-imposed ban followed on from Royal Jordanian’s announcement that it had also suspended flights to Baghdad over security concerns.
