Lufthansa has temporarily deployed a number of A350-900 aircraft to Frankfurt Airport, in response to delayed aircraft deliveries.
Initially deploying four aircraft to the airport, these planes have been in service from Frankfurt on routes to Seoul and Shanghai since March 30, 2025. Lufthansa will add a further two planes in May and July of this year, when the German carrier launches A350 services from Frankfurt to both Denver and Seattle.
“With the temporary deployment of A350-900 aircraft from Frankfurt, we are closing a gap caused by delayed aircraft deliveries,” said Jens Ritter, chief executive officer Lufthansa Airlines. “The A350 will provide an improved travel experience from Frankfurt until new long-haul aircraft are delivered.”
The airline chief said that over the next 36 months, it is expecting the largest fleet renewal in its history. By the end of 2027, Lufthansa is expecting 61 new aircraft to be added to its fleet, meaning on average one new aircraft will be added to its fleet every two weeks.
Within the company’s 2024 earnings, it was disclosed that last year Lufthansa took delivery of seven A350s, as part of its fleet renewal.
There are currently 30 Airbus A350-900 in service from Munich, with 14 more aircraft of this type expected to join the fleet by 2029.
