Lufthansa Cargo has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with online fashion retailer SHEIN to explore joint initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable air cargo operations.
The agreement, signed on August 19, includes a plan to scale up the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for SHEIN shipments transported by Lufthansa Cargo. Both parties have committed to finalising concrete actions within six months, including the adoption of SAF offsetting solutions.
The initiative aligns with SHEIN’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions across its supply chain.
Lufthansa Cargo will provide the retailer with “proof of sustainability” certificates for SAF usage, verified by independent standards.
“Signing this memorandum with SHEIN demonstrates our commitment to responsible, high-performance logistics,” said Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. “It also reinforces the need for concrete measures and reliable implementation in advancing sustainable global supply chains.”
The companies are also exploring knowledge-sharing opportunities and improved data reporting related to environmental performance.
