Lufthansa adds more flights to Indian subcontinent

Lufthansa is all set to commence a new route between its base at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) to Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) early next year. The new route will complement its services already from Frankfurt to Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.

The airline plans to launch the route on January 16, 2024. Prior to this Lufthansa had thrice-weekly scheduled flights to Hyderabad in 2011.

Speaking on the Indian aviation market, Harry Hohmeister, member of Executive Board, Lufthansa Group said: “The market is ripe for picking in India, with statistics showing the demand is growing at least 10% annually post-COVID-19 There is enough room for all. The travel market is growing at 10% annually. Also, India was getting out of COVID crisis better than other countries. Our plans for India, therefore, have to be different, too.”

Apart from the Hyderabad route, the airline will also launch thrice weekly services between Munich International Airport (MUC) and Bangalore Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) from November 3 this year. The airline plans to deploy its A350-900 on the route.
