LOT Polish Airlines has placed a firm order with Airbus for 40 A220 aircraft, made up of 20 A220-100s and 20 A220-300s.
The order, which could foresee a future increase to 84 A220s, was announced at the Paris Air Show, concluding a day of deals made by the European manufacturer.
This deal with Airbus comes after LOT had been in talks regarding two “very competitive” offers, relating to the replacement of its regional fleet of aircraft. The airline did not confirm who this secondary offer was made by.
With deliveries of these A220 aircraft commencing in the summer period of 2027, LOT said that its fleet of Embraer first generation aircraft will be replaced.
LOT said that these Embraer jets “needed replacing” due to their age.
At a signing ceremony for the aircraft order in Paris, the airline said that the first deliveries will be made up of the A220-300 variant, with LOT adding that it has options to change the variants of the aircraft ordered if needed.
The Polish airline called the A220 the “right aircraft” for the future of LOT, serving the growth of the airline in terms of fleet and passengers.
