Two more European airlines have taken the step to suspended services to China.
LOT Polish Airlines has suspended its route from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Beijing, while SAS has suspended operations to Shanghai.
In a statement, a spokesperson for LOT said: "LOT Polish Airlines has decided to cancel flights to Beijing during the winter season due to unsatisfactory booking results and a significantly weaker competitive position compared to carriers using shorter routes,"
SAS - which operates a direct service between Copenhagen and Shanghai - has blamed "current market conditions" for the route suspension.
A spokesperson for SAS said: "Due to current market conditions, including an unbalanced competitive landscape where Chinese carriers can fly over Russian airspace while European carriers cannot, we have made the difficult decision to suspend services to Shanghai."
They continued: "China remains a key market for SAS, and we will actively monitor the situation for future opportunities to restore our presence in this important region, while continuing to serve our customers through other destinations in Asia."
Virgin Atlantic terminated its only route to mainland China back in July, with a spokesperson for the airline confirming to Airline Economics at the time that restrictions with Russian airspace caused the axing of its route.
In August British Airways followed suit, with the airline pausing flights between London Heathrow and Beijing from October 26, 2024. And similarly Lufthansa also axed its route from Frankfurt to Beijing from the start of the winter season.
