LATAM rejects claims linking it to Voepass’s financial woes

LATAM Airlines has stated that its decision to terminate a commercial partnership with Brazilian carrier Voepass was primarily caused by the crash of a Voepass-operated flight in August last year, in response to allegations that LATAM was to blame for Voepass’s current financial difficulties.

Voepass filed for bankruptcy protection on April 23, 2025, attributing its financial woes largely to the suspension of its flight operations. The airline pointed to actions caused by LATAM Airlines as a key factor contributing to its current financial position.

Within court documents, the Chilian carrier is identified as the “principal cause” of Voepass' financial crisis due to its “significant control” and influence over its operations and its failure to fulfil “financial obligations”.

A spokesperson for LATAM told Airline Economics that the airline “firmly rejects statements made by Voepass, that seek to attribute responsibility to LATAM for its current financial challenges”.

“LATAM also underscores that Voepass currently lacks a valid Air Operator Certificate, which was suspended by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC). This suspension prevents Voepass from conducting passenger transport operations, further supporting the rationale for the contract termination," the spokesperson commented.

In March of this year ANAC suspended the operations of Voepass as a precautionary measure, citing a failing to meet safety standards.
