LATAM receives first GEnx-equipped Boeing 787-9

LATAM Airlines has received its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner equipped with GEnx engines, the airline said yesterday (January 9).

The aircraft will be added to its long-haul operations in the coming days.

“The combination of the Boeing 787-9 and GEnx engines allows us to take a significant step toward a more efficient and sustainable operation, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while also gaining flexibility to continue growing and adapting to different markets and routes,” said LATAM Airlines Group director of fleet and projects Sebastian Acuto.

“This addition is key to strengthening our long-haul network and supporting the Group’s international growth in the coming years.”

The delivery comes amid the airline's fleet growth and modernisation plan. The airline expects to receive 41 new aircraft this year, including its first Embraer E195-E2 jet. The airline ordered up to 74 of the jets last year, with 24 firm and 50 options.

An additional 27 deliveries are expected in 2027, including its first Airbus A321XLR.

By 2030, the airline aims to add over 130 new aircraft from various OEMs to its fleet.

LATAM closed 2025 with a total of 371 aircraft in its fleet, adding 26 new jets during the year.
