Korean Air will invest 1.2 trillion Korean won ($839.1 million) to establish a new urban air mobility (UAM) and aviation safety research and development centre in Bucheon, a city around 25km away from the capital of Seoul.

The centre will aim to support research and development, pilot training, and safety initiatives as the airline positions itself for the future following its integration with Asiana Airlines.

“This is more than just a facility - it’s a launchpad for Korea’s aviation future,” said a Korean Air spokesperson. “Through bold investments in technology and training, we aim to lead the next era of air mobility while reinforcing our commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with operations expected to commence in May 2030. The facility will span over 65,800 square meters, hosting over 1,000 personnel, including researchers, engineers, and flight instructors.
